TV Distribution as RF Over Cat5
With the increased bandwidth available in Cat5 / Cat6 structured cable installations, it has become viable to distribute TV channels as modulated RF signals over structured cabling in the same way that SMATV systems use coaxial cable. A small device called a balun is required at each end of the structured cabling link. The balun at the viewing point is connected between the structured cabling floor outlet and the TV receiver aerial socket.
There are significant constraints associated with this type of system. Cable losses, which increase with frequency and cable length, mean that the system is most effective at the lower end of the UHF frequency spectrum and with shorter cable lengths.
Klick designs and installs TV distribution and video distribution systems of all types bringing together elements of RF and other technologies to produce best value solutions for our customers.
